Hub City Livestock Auction - Aberdeen SD

Compared to last week: steers 650 to 699 lbs and 800 to 949 lbs 2.00 to 8.00 lower, 700 to 799 lbs and 950 to 999 lbs 10.00 to 15.00 lower. Heifers 550 to 599 lbs mostly steady, 600 to 749 lbs 15.00 to 20.00 lower. A very large offering of feeder cattle today met with moderate to good demand. Many loads, packages, and multiple loads of cattle, both home raised and backgrounded, most average to attractive in quality.

Compared to last week: Feeder steers 7.00-14.00 lower. Feeder heifers 7.00-10.00 lower except 600-700lbs 15.00 lower. Heifer quality was noticeably better than steer quality. CME futures were down sharply, and just before the close buyers began to pull back. What had been a steer market running 4.00-9.00 lower slipped further after the futures closed, finishing 7.00-14.00 lower. Steer calves 10.00-15.00 higher. Heifer calves 4.00-6.00 higher. Calf demand moderate to good.

Compared to last week, steers over 700 lbs sold steady to sharply lower and heifers over 650 lbs sold 3.00 to 15.00 lower. Steers under 700 lbs and heifers under 650 lbs not well tested, even with good condition, calves sold sharply lower. Boning utility sold 3.00 to 4.00 higher and Lean utility sold steady to 6.00 higher.
